Sports Day Teams

Hi Everyone,

Coming home today is a note about the sports day teams. I have let you know which team your child is in and the colour t-shirt that they are able to wear. Don’t feel that you need to rush out and buy a t-shirt especially for this day. The school t-shirt is fine and you could tie some colour ribbon on it. Any questions please come and see me.

Thanks

Karina 🙂

Koala visit

Hi Everyone,

We had a special visitor in our classroom today. Her name is Matilda the koala and she is one year old. She was very well behaved and the children were very excited to meet and pat her. A big thank you to Emma for bringing Matilda in to see us. It was very appreciated. Koala visit

Week 5 Sharing Topic

Hi Everyone,

This week the children are going to be talking about their pets. We discussed other options if you do not have pets at home. The children could talk about pets that Grandparents have or a pet they wish for.

Thanks

Karina

Week Five

Hi Everyone,

Wow, we are week five already. The term is going very fast!

We have been very busy learning our sounds and sight words. A big thank you to the parents who have been taking the time to support your child’s learning at home. We have been using our “Eagle Eye” look at the pictures strategy when we are reading our shared big book and during individual reader time. The students are looking at the pictures for clues when they do not recognise a word. We have also begun looking at the first sounds in words. We are working on handwriting and learning how to write a sentence.

We have started our science unit “Watch it Grow” and the students have been very enthusiastic about learning about bees. Yes, honey is bee spit! We will continue with this focus for the rest of the term and will be looking at the butterfly and frog life cycles, plants and how we grow. Could everyone please send in a baby photo of your child so we can compare “then to now”.

In maths we have be learning about identifying a number and looking at collections/groups of number. For example show me four counters and can you show me another way to make 4 ( 3 plus 1 more, or two and two make four).

We also discussed Stranger Danger and the “Year of the Goat” for the celebration of Chinese New Year. The children are working hard on being good learning partners.

Wednesday after recess (25/2/15) we will be going to the Japanese Incursion- Taiko Drums and Japanese Flutes. The children are aware that this performance will be loud and Grey Sensi  has been preparing them for this. Please ensure you have paid the excursion levy or your child will be unable to attend. Thank you to the parents who have paid.

Have a great week everyone.

Cheers

Karina

Welcome to 8W in 2015

Hi Everyone,

Welcome into in our class and I look forward to building working relationships with you and your children. How do you view the image of your child? Do you see them as competent and capable? Do you think you have to protect them? I would be interested in hearing your views. Please click on The Reggio Emilia page for further information. I see all your children as competent and capable learners, as well as citizens. I encourage them to become independent, think for themselves and have ownership over what they are learning. I have created a welcoming learning space for them and will continue to change the classroom over the year.

Can you please send a framed family photo from home so we can display them in the class. I find this helps the children to develop a strong sense of belonging in the classroom.

New sounds will come home on Monday and Wednesdays and I will try to send new sight words home each night. Please do not stress about the sight words as the children have all of this year to become familiar with the Oxford word list. (First 100 words).

Cheers

Karina
