Week 7 Gymnastics

Hi Everyone,

This is a reminder that gymnastics starts tomorrow in the students’ PE lesson. Please can you ensure that the girls are wearing long pants or shorts for the lesson. Everyone needs to be wearing appropriate footwear.

Thanks

Book Week Assembly/Dress up Parade

Hi Everyone,

On the Friday of week 6, the 28th of August, it will be dress up day for book week. The children are encouraged to come dressed as their favourite character, or if they do not wish to dress up, they can bring their favourite book to show. The Assembly and parade will start at around 9.00 in the pavilion. I am looking forward to see who the children come dressed as. Have fun planning!!

Thanks

Karina

What we have been learning in Maths

Hi Everyone,

In maths we have been learning about length, in the measurement and geometry strand of the curriculum. The outcome of this unit of work is for students to develop an awareness of the attribute of length and some of the language used to describe length. We have been using informal measures (eg.hand spans, unifix cubes, pop sticks) and will start using formal measures i.e a ruler.

The term ‘length’ is generally used to describe a measure from end to end of a drawn interval, a two-dimensional shape or a three-dimensional object.

Students should be able to communicate using the following language: length, end, end-to-end, side-by-side, long, longer than, longest, short, shorter than, shortest, high, higher than, highest, tall, taller than, tallest, low, lower than, lowest, the same as, near, nearer, far, further, close, closer. This language is essential as all further mathematical concepts and work will build on from this point. We have been having lots of conversations using this language.Have some fun measuring objects around your house.

Cheers

Karina
