Week 2 of the challenge

Hi Everyone,

Coming home tonight is the sheet for week two of the ‘Be Active Challenge’. I have photocopied it back to back in the hope of saving a few trees and make it easier to manage. Could the completed week one sheets be returned on Monday, thank you. The children have had great fun this week navigating the orienteering courses and reading maps. It has certainly made our maths lessons come alive. I apologise for not having the spelling lists up on the blog earlier in the week, but I have been feeling a little under the weather myself. All the students have successfully completed the ‘Premier’s Reading Challenge’ and the forms have been submitted to Mr Ross in the library.

Cheers

Premier’s be active Challenge 2014

Hi Everyone,

Our class is taking part in the ‘Premier’s be active Challenge’. The challenge goes for 4 weeks and we are starting in week 5. I will send the forms home on Thursday nights for the next week. I have included a list of physical activities that are included in the challenge. For more information you can also visit the site www.pbac.sa.edu.au . The children are expected to participate in 60 mins of activity for at least 5 days of the week, so if they go to swimming lessons or dance lessons that will cover the activity for that day. Next week is Orienteering week at school and I thought that now would be a good time to start the challenge. Have fun being active.

Cheers

Karina

Living safely with Pets Program

Hi Everyone,

Wow we are venturing into week four already. The weeks have flown past us!! The children all enjoyed swimming and learnt many new skills. Thank you for your patience with the changing of clothes. As you are aware this is not a decision made by us but a response from DECD due to the Debelle inquiry. Many of you have come into the classroom and seen our new learning spaces. The children have been very excited and engaged with their learning. We have begun our Reggio Inquiry topics and as a community of learners ( 6AS, 6AN and 8W) we are learning new skills and developing deep thinking about our chosen topics. Have a chat with your child to find out what inquiry topic they have chosen. I have placed some information and thoughts on the Reggio page.

On Friday the 23rd of May the children will be visiting the Living safely with pets program. I still have some outstanding permission slips. Can these please be returned asap. If you are unsure as to whether you have returned yours can you please see me.

In maths we have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes, looking at attributes, sorting, counting faces, edges and vertices. We have revisited skip counting by tens and working with problematised situations.

In literacy we have been working on the skills of questioning (who, when, why, what, where, how?), and visualising to help with our understanding and comprehension of the text. In writing we have been working on narratives, homophones, initial blends and a swimming journal.

In Integrated studies we have been examining the weather and learning about the solar system. We have had time with our buddies to finish our favourites presentation and the students will begin sharing these with the class during week 4 and 5. We tried out some still life drawing of tulips and the students enjoyed learning these new techniques.

For 5 Wednesdays starting on June the 4th, Lucinda Castillo (a 3 year teaching student from Flinders uni) will be joining our class for her practical experience. During this time she will be getting to know the students and undertaking planning. Lucinda will be with us also for the first 4 weeks of term 3. Please say hi and make her feel welcome. Any questions please come and see me.

Have a great week.

Cheers

Karina 😉
